There are some experiences that are so enjoyable that you can’t wait to repeat them. Our river cruise last summer was one of those. I think we booked our next cruise about after we got home from sail down the Danube. It’s been a long wait, but we leave next weekend for another Viking cruise through Bordeaux, and I’m excited. I’ll be turning this into a travel blog for a week or so.

There may be places that you visit repeatedly. For Ken and me, one of those spots is Sanibel Island, on the west coast of Florida. It’s a place where we love to go to relax. We’re doing that again later this summer, as we’ve booked a week at a condo on the beach. Expect plenty of pictures of the beach and seashells.

Between those two trips, though? Well, it’s a repeat that I wasn’t expecting: I’m having another surgery to attack the cyst on my liver. I’ve been feeling great since the January operation, but within the last two months I’d felt as if my abdomen was beginning to distend again. My first thought was that I was being paranoid, but I didn’t dismiss my feelings. I talked to my primary provider, who ordered an ultrasound. That led to more tests, a gastrointestinal consult, and back to the surgeon. The cyst has closed back up and refilled with fluid. The surgeon was very apologetic; this is only the second time he’s had this happen. He was already plotting how to attack it differently, so that it won’t close again.
I’m obviously disappointed that this has happened, but I’m relieved that we got to an answer so quickly. It was just over two weeks from the time I talked to my PCP to seeing the surgeon and setting a date for the procedure. I know what to expect. I’ll have the surgery as an outpatient this time, so no mystery soup experiences. I’m feeling okay, without any pain, and it’s not going to interfere with our cruise.
I truly appreciated all the kind words and support from this community the last go-round, which is why I feel comfortable sharing again. I hope I’ll come back with another good story. Mystery Soup was good for something 😄
