It has been the week for flowering trees. One our walk Monday morning, we spotted this tree, almost bare of leaves but with these showy flower clusters. Some research when we got home revealed that it’s a golden shower tree, Cassia fistula, a tree native to India. I don’t think I’ve ever seen one before.

I love this time of year, because the royal poinciana trees begin to bloom. It’s still early in the blooming season, but the beautiful red flowers are already beautiful. This is a tree that I’m glad to look at in someone else’s garden, as the roots spread quite far and can cause all sorts of problems.

I know that I posted photos of frangipani blossoms from our tree a couple weeks ago, but we’re close to peak bloom now. The view from our patio is glorious. Interestingly, I walked out into the yard, intending to take a photo back toward the house, so that I wouldn’t be shooting into the sun. That side has very few flowers on it! I wonder if there are more facing the house because that side was more protected during the very cold weather we had this winter. We’ve seen the same thing on the sea grape in the front yard. Viewing it from the house, it’s covered in grape clusters. From the street, you can hardly see any. No matter the reason, I’m enjoying the sight and the smell of these gorgeous flowers.
