It’s a fact of life: some days are better than others. This morning was one of those times that will be hard to top.

A little over a year ago, I wrote about the beautiful Japanese garden we have in Palm Beach County, the Morikami Museum and Gardens. I’m not going to repeat the background of this amazing place. You can check out that post if you’re interested. Ken and I decided to visit again, and wanted to do it before the weather gets too hot. We picked the perfect day. A front went through yesterday, probably our last “cold front” of the season. I use the term loosely. Our temperature today was in the mid 70s, but the front reduced the humidity and left a stiff breeze. I actually felt cool in the shade, and definitely needed to hang on to my hat.

Can you spot the duck?

We’ve been through the Morikami gardens numerous times, but we’ve always followed the same route. The path makes a big circle around a central lake. If you go in a counterclockwise direction, the gardens you visit are in chronological order, starting with those from early in Japanese history. That’s how we’ve always proceeded until today. Ken suggested that we go in the opposite direction. It opened up entirely new vistas. We saw things we’d never noticed before.

We always enjoy looking at the bonsai collection, and today was no exception. We had never seen the bonsai nursery, but our wandering took us past it. I really wish we’d been allowed to explore.

There are benches throughout the garden, to sit and enjoy this peaceful place. Alice lives close by and has a membership to the garden. I think she sometimes takes a book and finds a quiet spot to sit and read.

Our wonderful morning came to an end, but we’ll be back. Alice just gave us another pair of guest passes that are a membership perk. And it’s definitely a happy place for me.
