It may only be January 2nd, but Ken has already won this year’s husband of the year award. I’ve been dealing with a serious health issue this past week. In fact, I spent Tuesday and Wednesday in the hospital, and will be going back for surgery on Monday.

While I have been pretty much limited to either the recliner or the bed, Ken has just taken over. Meals, laundry, you name it, he’s taken care of it. He’s also been my rock, offering comfort, distraction, hugs, and laughter. I truly could not have gotten through these long days of waiting without him.

The picture is actually from Christmas Eve, when Ken helped me with our Christmas morning pie. Although he has spent a lot of time in the kitchen the past few days, I have not.

He got a reprieve today. Alice spent the day with us to help, cooked picadillo for tonight’s dinner, and is spending the night. And Ben will be here for several days next week. But I could not make it through this without him.

Thanks. The picadillo tasted really good. Although she used my recipe, Alice went off script and added some Penzey’s Turkish seasoning. Definitely not authentic, but it was delicious. When this is all over, I’m going to write a post on hospital food and the mystery soup. Not a culinary highlight, for sure😃

Thank you so much. The surgery was successful, and I came home yesterday. It’s going to be a while, though, until I’m back on my feet again. So grateful for family and friends, and also my WordPress friends, who have been so supportive. I truly am blessed.
