What’s in a Name?

Write about your first name: its meaning, significance, etymology, etc.

The name Lynn is derived from a Welsh word that means lake. There’s also a similar Irish word that means pond or waterfall. Maybe that’s why I like to be around water!

I once asked my parents how they chose my name, since no one in our family has a name remotely like mine. They told me that my mother had a friend whose name was Madeleine, but who went by Lynn. My mother liked the name, and they wanted to give me a short first name, as our last name was three syllables. So that’s how I became Lynn.
