Forest bell creeper

When I was at the botanical garden two weeks ago, I saw that the forest bell creeper (Tecomanthe dendrophila) was blooming, but I wasn’t happy with the pictures I took of it, and didn’t include any in my post. Then this photo from last spring turned up in my “on this day” memories, and I knew that I wanted to share it. Also known as New Guinea trumpet vine, it’s a rare tropical woody vine. At the garden, it is wrapped around an old tree, and has climbed quite high. The bloom doesn’t last very long, but it’s really spectacular in full flower. I’m glad I didn’t miss it this year.
