I had no problem deciding the theme for this post, since we spent the morning at the Palm Beach Zoo. It has probably been 10 years since the last time we went there, and the visit reminded us of what a nice zoo it is.

One area of the zoo that I remembered and wanted to visit again was the lorikeet habitat. Lorikeets are a type of parrot native to Southeast Asia and Australia. These are rainbow lorikeets from Australia, and guests can feed them. We didn’t do that the last time, but today I bought a cup of nectar and was soon very popular with the birds. Ken even got a picture of with three sitting on my arm.

We did see lots of other animals, but it wasn’t always possible to get good pictures. I am convinced that it is impossible to get a decent photo of a river otter. The difficulty was especially true for animals whose habitats are enclosed with wire fencing. So we enjoyed just looking, although I got a few more that I hope you enjoy.

Although I was shooting into the sun and had the wire fence in the way, I have to share this final picture of one of the zoo’s three tigers. He was pacing that overpass to another section of the tiger habitat, but it was blocked at one end—probably to separate him from another tiger. A docent who was there told us that they keep the tigers separated, “or there will be fights.” We were just thrilled to be able to watch him for several minutes. I think he was doing as much watching as we were. His expression made me very happy that we had a barrier between us.

The beach last Friday, the zoo today. We need to make plans for next week!
