Describe a random encounter with a stranger that stuck out positively to you.
In 2017, Ken and I were on a tour based in Exmoor National Park in Somerset, England. One afternoon, our group went to the Wetlands and Willow Center near Taunton. We had an interesting tour and learned about willow and how it’s used.

After the tour, we sat at an outdoor cafe, enjoying a hot chocolate, talking with a couple of other people in the group, as well as our bus driver. (I probably ought to point out that Ken and I were the only Americans on the tour; everyone else was from Britain). I noticed an older gentleman across the courtyard who seemed to be looking at us, but didn’t think anything of it.
As our time drew to a close, Ken and I were sitting at the table by ourselves when the gentleman came up to us, looked at me, and said, “what has he done today?” It took a few seconds for me to realize that he wasn’t asking about Ken, but the US president, and that he was interested in talking politics.
What ensued was a very cordial conversation that included discussions of Brexit as well as American policy. But how he approached us was memorable.
