What is your favorite restaurant?

I’ve mentioned before that the best restaurant experience I’ve ever had was at Commander’s Palace in New Orleans. And we have been in some terrific restaurants, both nearby and in our travels.

There are several places that could contend for the title of my favorite restaurant. To be a favorite, it has to be someplace we’ve eaten at several times, at least. For the most part, that means a restaurant close by. So, although I love Doc Ford’s on Sanibel Island and the Ocean Grill in Vero Beach (we actually were talking about the Ocean Grill’s Bailey’s Irish Crème chocolate chip cheesecake this morning), I’m going to eliminate them from contention.

There are plenty of local contenders. Agliolio’s is our neighborhood Italian restaurant, and a favorite for lunch. They have, hands down, the best house vinaigrette I’ve ever tasted, and they make beautiful salads.

I’ve written about Captain Charlie’s a couple times, because they do an incredible job with seafood. They’re incredibly creative, and prices are reasonable.

But if push comes to shove, I’d have to say that Seasons 52 is my favorite restaurant. It’s not just the excellent food and service; it’s also the beautiful setting on the Intracoastal Waterway. We’ve only once sat indoors, when we were with a group of friends. Generally, you’ll find us as close to the water as we can, always with a glass of wine. It’s a “slow down and savor” spot.

We’ve never had a bad meal or anything less than perfect service. Yes, it’s definitely my favorite.
