I know I haven’t written any food posts since Sunday, and I promise that there will be one about tonight’s dinner.

I also know that I’ve written before about Mounts Botanical Garden in West Palm Beach, where I volunteer. I led a tour this morning, so I arrived early to take a walkthrough. Particularly at this time of year, the plants in bloom can change from week to week.

For all the years that I’ve been a docent at the garden, I had two unique experiences today. The garden contains a number of cycads, which are some of the oldest plants on earth. They don’t produce flowers or fruit; they have cones of “naked seeds,” much like pine trees. I’ve seen the cones, which can be huge, but today was the first time I ever saw individual seeds spilling from a cone.

Also, I’ve heard a cardinal chirping loudly in the herb garden, but I’ve only seen it once. This morning, though, the beautiful male wasn’t bothered by my presence, and, in fact, spent several minutes posing for me. I had lots of fun, taking lots of photos.

I hope your day has also been filled with beauty.
