Feeding My Soul

One does not live on food alone. Being outdoors in natural beauty always makes me feel better. One of my favorite things about being retired is having the opportunity to be a tour guide at our local botanical garden. I was scheduled to lead a tour this morning, and it was so wonderful to be in the garden.

It was a perfect morning, sunny and cool. One of my favorite aspects of being a guide is walking through the garden early in the morning, before the tour and with few other people around. It’s quiet and peaceful, and I always feel calm and focused by the time it’s time to meet the group I’m leading through the garden.

This morning’s early walk was particularly special. There is currently an installation called Ribbit the Exhibit, a collection of sculptures of whimsical frogs. I loved visiting them on my own.

I’d love to sit and have tea with this guy!

I also had a unique experience in the garden today. As I did my walk through, I was joined by a cute, friendly ginger cat.

She accompanied me all the way through the garden. Unfortunately, she scared off the cardinal who was sitting on the thinker statue before I could get a picture.

The tour group was great, attentive and engaged. There’s always something beautiful to see in the garden, and I love introducing people to this beautiful space. It isn’t just food that we need to sustain us.
