I know that, most of the time, I’m writing about meals that I cook. And we do eat most dinners at home. We’re more likely to go out for lunch than any other meal, although lately we’ve been enjoyed Saturday breakfast at one of several local daylight cafes.
The one time that we are almost guaranteed to go out to dinner is for our wedding anniversary. That’s what we did last evening, celebrating our 53rd anniversary at one of our favorite restaurants.

When we go out for a special occasion like this, we seem to gravitate to someplace that has good seafood. The past few years, our most frequent choice has been Bimini Twist. The restaurant has been in business since 2002, and it’s a very popular place. We wouldn’t think about going without a reservation, particularly on a weekend. But, busy as it was, service was excellent, as always, and we never felt rushed.
We shared conch fritters for an appetizer. A Florida speciality, we used to eat conch fritters frequently when we lived south of Miami. In those days, it was just a half hour drive to Key Largo, and we would make the drive frequently for delicious seafood meals. Neither of us could remember the last time we’d had conch fritters frequently, but we agreed that these were wonderful. They were served with both a Creole mustard sauce and cocktail sauce with enough horseradish to clear my sinuses. I’m ready to go back just for those.
There are so many interesting dishes on the menu, but I always opt for the mussels. It’s something I don’t make at home, and the restaurant offers them two different ways: Italian style in tomato sauce or French style in a white wine and cream sauce. I like both preparations, but I chose the red sauce this time. Ken has heard me rave about them often enough that he ordered the mussels, too. He wasn’t sorry. In fact, he cleaned his bowl, while I brought some home.

It was a wonderful evening, and glass of Prosecco, compliments of the restaurant, was a nice way to finish the evening. Maybe we need to do this more than once a year!
