Share five things you’re good at.
This is the type of prompt that normally I’d pass on, because either it feels as if you’re boasting or being overly modest or self-critical. So I decided to choose things that other people have told me I’m good at.

- I’m a good cook. Since I’m writing a “mostly food” blog, that makes sense, right? I love to cook for people and to try new recipes.

2. I’m a good musician. I’ve lost count of how many people have said to me, “you have a beautiful voice.” But I’m more proud of being able to work within a musical group, to have other musicians who ask me to make music with them.

3. I’m a good teacher. I’ve had enough former students tell me about the impact I had on their education, and seen enough of them become successful as musicians and/or educators, and had positive affirmations from colleagues who admire and respect to say that confidently. One of the things of which I am most proud was being named regular educator of the year by the local Council for Exceptional Children for my work with disabled students in my music classes.
4. I’m a good writer. For that, I credit Dr. Alexander Main, who, in the introductory class of my first graduate course, stated that no graduate student came into the program knowing how to write. He taught me as much about writing as he did music history, and I am forever grateful. Ken is an excellent writer; he was always in demand as a reviewer for several professional journals. He says that he’s the second best writer in the house. I don’t think I believe him, but I’m honored that he’d even voice that.

5. I’m a pretty decent photographer, especially of nature and landscape photos. I have gotten a lot of compliments on my pictures, especially the ones I’ve taken of plants and flowers.
And now you know a bit more about me.
