After the flash mob

In April 2020, early in COVID lockdown, a friend put together an online dining group that he called Flash Mob Dining. He’d set a weekly theme, such as a particular ingredient or type of cuisine, and people in the group would report on what they ate to meet that theme. I offered to help and, as people got vaccinated and life started to return to a semblance of normality, I found myself moderating the group on my own. I started including recipes, too. It was a great way for people to stay in touch.

It eventually became time to end the group. People were gathering in real life, and participation dwindled. But people kept telling me how much they liked my recipes, and I also found that I missed sharing them, and writing about food in general.

That’s how So Many Dishes came into being. I’ll still share recipes. But I’ll also talk about food, how we think about it, the place it has in our lives, and how it connects us. Think of it as delicious storytelling!
